OUR PLANS MULTIPLIED

In the beginning, JD adamantly only wanted two children. I thought that four would be perfect. Once we caught God's vision of putting orphans into families, our plan was multiplied by God. We are currently blessed with 12 children; five biological, six adopted and one more waiting in Ethiopia. Our first adoption was from the U.S., the next three were from Liberia, West Africa, and our last two were from Ethiopia. We are supporting our 12th child in Ethiopia after her adoption could not pass court.

Saturday and Sunday

I "let" JD go out of town for a men's retreat; my job at home wasn't too tough since Aunt Deb came and helped me the whole time. Good old Aunt Deb has filled in a gap that I have ignored for years - board games! She taught the kids how to play Yahtzee and Sorry. It can be a bit challenging with little "helpers."

I wish I had thought to have someone video the excitement when I got out Selah and Bella's new church outfits. They squealed, clapped and jumped up and down. They are always super eager to get dressed and like to admire themselves in the mirror.

Check out the girl's heights. Tori is almost 8, Julia is 6.5, Selah is supposedly 5 or 5.5 and Bella is 2.5. I'm anxious to get a bone scan done on Selah to determine her age range.

When the camera comes out, Bella starts posing. Selah didn't want to be left out, so she gave it a go also.

You got to wonder where they learned this!

We made our first trip to a store with the girls - Costco after church. They did great, but wouldn't touch the pizza.

When the 12 of us rolled up to the food court, there was only one table. Two different people offered us parts of their tables, which was so nice. Only one little girl asked if we were just one family.

You really can't miss us rolling through the store!

The good news is that we wore them out and the ride home was quieter than usual.

While the shopping went well, I'm not taking all of them without JD for a while!

  1. Just curious what your reasoning is for a bone scan.

We found out the day we picked up our kids from the orphanage that our son was 3 years older than previously told. We had paperwork with his actual age. He knew his actual age. But . . . his orphanage created birth certificate had him 3 years younger.

We had a bone scan and the doctor seriously put his age at the exact age of his ficticious birth certificate. The doctor had no desire to really determine his correct age . . . didn't want to get involved . . . didn't see a need to determine true age . . . We knew that we knew that we knew that the "birthdate" was completely made up. The U.S. doctor refused to even discuss the matter.

We know that all 3 of our kids are at least 2-3 years older than their orphanage-created birth certificates. However, we decided it would do no good to make the kids older, when in reality they are much younger emotionally, socially, academically, etc . . .

    So . . . all that to say . . . I'm just curious . . .

  3. They are precious. We sometimes eat the pizza combo at Sam's. The little people share. After many attempts of cutting pizza's with a plastic fork...I got smart. (The snack bar is not allowed to cut the pieces in 1/2 for us--crazy). I take a pizza cutter, and a baggie to put it in after use. I have had SOOO many moms look at me with a look that says "you are a genius!"
